A story is told of an army soldier who while in battle, their camp was attacked and he was injured. The medical personnel managed to perform first aid on him;keeping him alive as he awaited uplifting to hospital.
The doctors did everything that was in their power hoping that he would recover. Unfortunately, his health worsened by the day. They resolved to “make him comfortable.”
While at it, a priest visited him frequently. The priest would share with him about the love of God reminding him that God had a good plan for his life. This soldier was dying but the priest had the audacity to tell him that God had a good plan for his life. The priest told him about salvation but his heart was hardened. He did not allow Christ to be Lord over his life.
The priest however did not give up. Every so often, he would visit him and share with him. One day, he found him asleep and decided to pray with him. He prayed The Lord’s Prayer and left. Unknown to the priest, he was in a trance and he heard as the priest prayed. That was his breaking point. In that hospital room, he confessed all his sins and allowed Christ lordship over his life and a few days later, he went to be with the Lord.
In his next visit, the priest found the soldier’s bed empty. He was devastated. The nurse who had been attending to this soldier however encouraged the priest telling him that in his final moments, he had allowed Christ lordship over his life.
It was discovered that when he, the soldier, was a young boy, his mother taught him the Lord’s prayer and they would pray together. And so, in that moment, when he heard the priest pray the Lord’s Prayer, he remembered The God of his mother and chose to give his life to the God of his mother.
I have discovered that, even in my own life, regardless of how far I drift away from God, I tend to crawl back to Him because I have been founded on His word. His word resonates on my mind every other day and reminds me of His love and promises over my life.
In light of this, it is written in Proverbs 22:6
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
